Year 6 trip to Tolmeitha
On Sunday, 6th November, Year 6 took a hired bus to Tolmeitha to see the site where the Ancient Greeks and Romans had built a city. This educational trip was the first of its kind for many years and so everyone was very excited about it. Dr Ahmad Saad Emrage had visited the school the previous week to give us a presentation of what we were going to see. On the day, our first stop was the museum, where we saw statues and mosaics. Dr Ahmad was joined by his colleague Dr Faraj, who explained all about life 2,000 years ago, what the statues represented, and where each piece was found. This was fascinating for the children. After the museum, we had to walk to the site to see more mosaics, columns, the public baths and the cisterns which were used thousands of years ago to help build a major city in the region. The children ate their packed lunch in the Odeon and were very careful to pick up their rubbish, and other people's! They commented on how much the rubbish detracts from the beauty of the area. We then climbed onto the bus and made our way back to school. They all learnt a great deal more about life long ago, and the history of this country. Let's hope this was only the first of field trips for the school children.
